Hangdex Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 22, 2026
Hangdex automatically tracks time you spend with friends who also use the app. This policy explains what we collect and why.
What we collect
- Account info: your chosen display name, and your sign-in identifier (Apple ID token, phone number, or email) — used only to create and secure your account.
- Location: your device periodically reports its approximate location to our server (Google Firebase) so we can detect when you and a friend are near each other. Location history is not shared with other users; friends only ever see hangout sessions, never your live position.
- Motion activity: whether you're stationary, walking, or driving — used only to avoid false hangout detections (e.g., driving past a friend in traffic). Processed for detection; not shared.
- Bluetooth proximity: your device broadcasts a random app identifier over Bluetooth so friends' devices can recognize it nearby. This identifier is not your name, phone number, or any personal detail.
What stays on your phone
Your hangout history, streaks, statistics, and profile drawing are stored on your device. Your profile name is stored in your cloud account.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or share your data with advertisers or third parties.
- We don't show ads.
- Only people you explicitly add as friends (in person via QR code or nearby pairing) can be matched with you.
Data services
Hangdex uses Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Messaging) to provide accounts and friend-proximity features. Firebase's handling of data is described in Google's Firebase privacy documentation.
Deleting your data
Delete the app to remove all on-device data. To delete your cloud account and its data, contact us at the address below and we'll remove it.
